What is ESBC?


ESBC is Ciris Energy’s above ground process which combines depolymerization and bioconversion to produce high value industrial chemical intermediates, targeted biochemicals, and biogas from mined low-rank, wet coals and other opportunity feedstocks.   ESBC is a low cost, innovative technology with favorable environmental benefits over traditional coal conversion processes.


How does ESBC work?


An ESBC plant looks like a traditional coal yard and a milling facility.  Coal delivered to the facility is subjected to a proprietary reactive depolymerization process.   In this initial treatment process, coal is transformed into a stream of highly bioavailable chemical molecules. Some of these molecules are separated from this stream and monetized as commodity chemical intermediates. The remaining treated coal can be combined with engineered microbes or consortia, where it is metabolized to specific industrial chemicals, fuels, and biogas. 


What are the Advantages of ESBC?
